Curriculum

Nature studyOur curriculum philosophy is based upon the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards. Developmentally appropriate practices require teachers to meet children where they are and help them to reach goals that are both challenging and achievable.   It includes five developmental domains:

  1. Healthy and Physical Development
  2. Social and Emotional Development
  3. Language Development and Communication
  4. Approaches to Learning
  5. Cognition and General Knowledge

Fort Atkinson Preschool and Childcare utilizes The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool, a comprehensive, research-based curriculum that features exploration and discovery as a way of learning, enabling children to develop confidence, creativity, and lifelong critical thinking skills. This curriculum teaches literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, the arts, technology and process skills through establishing a classroom environment of play-based learning.

Classroom programs work to foster independence and a positive self-concept in each child. We believe that each child is an important individual and we strive to create an environment where children can grow to learn the value of being both universal and unique.

Fort Atkinson Preschool and Childcare also uses Strong Start, a social and emotional learning curriculum, to build social and emotional competency, important skills for success not only in children’s educational futures but in life.
